Do’s And Don’ts Of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that has experienced soaring popularity over the last several years. With busy schedules and complex grooming rituals, many people are finding that they simply no longer want to spend their free time on hassles like shaving or waxing.

Choosing a permanent hair removal method becomes a highly attractive prospect when it means you can spend a significant amount of time on more productive – or at least more fun – activities.

Before you rush out and book your first appointment, there are several important things you should know about: namely, what to do, and not do, during preparation and following treatment.

Preparation
Do…

• wear sunblock of 30 SPF or higher on the targeted area whenever you go out in the sun for at least one week prior to treatment.
• shave the treatment area before your procedure if instructed to do so.
• choose a well-respected and reputable laser hair removal clinic. Read online reviews and testimonials and ask for qualifications when booking your consultation.

Don’t…

• use tanning beds or allow your skin to become sunburned. If you arrive for your treatment and your skin is badly damaged, we will not be able to perform your procedure.
• use perfumed lotions or creams prior to your treatment.
• wax, bleach, or pluck the hairs from the treatment area for at least 1 week before treatment. The laser requires a root to target in order for the treatment to be successful and these methods of hair removal either remove or damage the root, rendering the procedure ineffectual.

The Procedure
Do…

• follow all instructions provided by the Fairview clinic staff. These instructions are provided for your safety.
• wear the provided protective eyewear. It does not matter how silly you think you look, these safety goggles are provided for your own benefit and are intended to prevent eye damage.

Don’t…

• be afraid to ask questions or speak up if you are uncomfortable. The technician is there to help you and we won’t know if you are in pain unless you tell us!

After Care
Do…

• use the restorative gel provided by your technician or cosmetic professional. This is intended to reduce redness and irritation while speeding healing.
• follow your post-treatment instructions carefully to avoid infection and prepare your skin for your next treatment.

Don’t…

• expose the treated area to sunlight for at least one week following treatment.
• take hot baths or showers or sit in a sauna for at least 3 days following treatment.
