Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) is a condition where a person sweats abnormally high. Normal sweating is a natural process of regulating body temperature. Some patients experience excessive sweating in the palms, underarms, face and feet or other parts of the body. The condition is exacerbated by nervousness and emotional stress. This embarrassing condition may occur at any age. The treatment of primary excessive sweating is not a medical condition and is considered a cosmetic procedure. Excessive sweating is treated using surgical or non-surgical procedures.
Sweat glands are suctioned using the procedure of liposuction. A tumescent fluid (anaesthetic fluid) is infiltrated at the subject site. The sweat glands are separated and extracted along with the fluid using small syringe. About 90 percent of the sweat glands are extracted thus reducing the source of sweating. This is very effective and proven procedure with very high patient satisfaction rate. The procedure is almost painless. The recovery time is immediate to 24 hours, depending on the areas treated and the patient's history of healing. The effect of the treatment is almost permanent in the treated area. The cost of this procedure is $1500.00 and up.
This procedure involves injecting the affected area with Botox (Botulinum Toxin) which disables the sweat glands in that area. This procedure is quite effective. However the big disadvantage is that the effect lasts from 4 to 8 months. Thus has to be repeated again and again. The cost of the treatment depends on the surgeons fee plus the amount of Botox used in each treatment.
Hyperhidrosis may also occur later in life due to medical conditions such as disorder of thyroid and pituitary gland, diabetes, tumor, gout, menopause and certain medication. For excessive sweat under such medical conditions, the patient must consult his/her own physician.
